Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to analyze the hotspots and trends of research on conflicts of interest in academic journals abroad, which is expected to bolster the research on this topic in China. [Methods] We searched foreign papers on this topic published before June 30, 2022 in Web of Science Core Collection and used VOSviewer and Excel respectively to visualize and analyze the research hotspots and trends. [Findings] Relevant foreign studies focus on "author" "journal" "publication" "industry" "ethics" "peer review", and "disclosure". In the future, studies of macro-level conflicts of interest related to "author" "journal", and "publication" will show a decline, and those of meso-microscopic conflicts of interest related to "industry" "ethics" "peer review", and "disclosure" will embrace a growth. In addition, on this topic, the "transparency" and "impact" may attract the interest of more scholars. [Conclusions] The shift of foreign research hotspots indicates that scholars tend to emphasize the intrinsic mechanisms rather than the superficial phenomenon. In view of the current status of Chinese academic journals, Chinese scholars should attach importance to both the conventional themes and international hotspots and trends.
