Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to investigate the current situation and influencing factors of post competency of medical journal editors from the perspective of self-efficacy and provide references for training medical journal editors. [Methods] On the basis of literature research, the self-designed post competency scale for medical journal editors was used to investigate medical journal editors, and the survey results were statistically analyzed. [Findings] The total post competency score of medical journal editors is 79.77±12.24 on average, which is in the medium level, and the scores of skills and knowledge are low. Univariate analysis of variance shows that there are statistically significant differences (P<0.001) in post competency of medical journal editors in terms of gender, age, education level, working years, professional background, professional title, and journal category. Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis shows that working years, education level, professional background, and self-efficacy are the main factors affecting the post competency of medical journal editors (P<0.001). The total average score of self-efficacy of medical journal editors is 2.72±0.51, which is positively correlated with the total average score of post competency (P<0.05). [Conclusions] The general competence level of medical journal editors still has room for improvement. It is suggested to promote the combination of editing and research, pay attention to the enhancement of scientific research ability and the ability to identify academic misconduct, teach according to demand, and enrich the form of continuing education for medical journal editors. Meanwhile, positive psychology should be used to guide editors to maintain positive emotions and mental health, and more humanistic care is required to enhance their sense of self-efficacy, so as to improve the overall competence of medical journal editors.
