Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to explore the relationship between interdisciplinarity and impact based on the internal knowledge structure of academic journals and to provide references for journal development and scholars. [Methods] Taking the journals of library and information science indexed by CSSCI as the data source, we calculated the knowledge diversity, knowledge balance, interdisciplinary degree, and impact index and then carried out the time series analysis to study the development trend. The regression analysis was performed to explore the relationship between interdisciplinarity and impact. [Findings] The knowledge diversity increases year by year, indicating that the research topics of each journal become increasingly diverse. Knowledge balance shows large variations, showing a downward trend in 76% journals, which indicates that most journals have formed dominant topics and actively absorbed additional topics. The interdisciplinary degree increases year by year, and the integration and innovation of knowledge have been continuously enhanced. [Conclusions] The knowledge diversity and interdisciplinary degree of journals positively influence journal impact. There is a correlation between knowledge balance and interdisciplinary degree, which remains to be explored. It is important for the healthy development of the journals to focus on the diversification of subject knowledge and the integration of the content of dominant subjects with the knowledge of other subjects.
