Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to study the status of continuing education and training of editorial staff of scientific journals in China, so as to provide a reference for the development of continuing education and training on editorial staff in the future, and to provide decision-making basis for administrative departments. [Methods] A questionnaire survey was conducted among 324 editorial staff of scientific journals in 26 provinces from May to June in 2019 by convenient sampling method. [Findings] Scientific journals do not pay enough attention to the continuing education and training, relevant training plans and institutional standards are not sound enough, and the assessment and evaluation mechanism is not perfect. The satisfaction of continuing education and training on editorial staff is not optimistic. The main problems in continuing education and training are the lack of targeted content and the single form of training. The main factors influencing editors to attend training are high training costs and long training time. [Conclusions] At present, there exist many problems in the continuing education and training of editorial staff. The scientific journals and competent authority should pay attention to these problems, and administrative departments should formulate relevant policies as soon as possible to standardize and improve the system of continuing education and training, so as to ensure the training quality and improve the overall quality of the editorial team.
