Abstract:

[Purposes] We summarize the basic facts of Engineering transaction series of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the unique approaches and progress of running these transactions, to provide references for the cluster construction of China's scientific journals. [Methods] We performed case analysis for the eleven journals in Engineering transaction series, with a focus on the leading journal Engineering. [Findings] The features of Engineering transaction series can be summarized as follows. (1) Under the deployment and promotion of CAE, we run the journals with the support of the whole CAE, and rely on the academicians of CAE and some top universities and publishing units in China, fully taking advantages of the sponsors in gathering top experts and using other resources. (2) In the construction of editorial boards and editorial offices, a variety of academic teams including the editorial board, youth corresponding expert groups, and temporary editorial boards for special issues have been formed, with both young and senior scholars as well as a wide coverage of disciplines. Most journals have two editorial offices, with foci on academic and editing quality control, respectively. (3) In terms of content, publishing special issues on cutting-edges is the most important act, and bilingual publishing is the strategy. (4) In terms of publishing and publicizing, we embrace open access to the world, and use both traditional and new media to push the articles to the potential readers. With the joint efforts of various sponsors, the impact of Engineering transaction series has increased significantly. Among the ten English journals, eight are included in the SCI-E database (one of which enters JCR Q1, five enter Q2, and two enter Q3), and two are included in ESCI. [Conclusions] The Engineering transaction series has become a journal cluster in China with notable impact in a relatively short period of time, and has good potential for increasing its impact further. We intend to make it a world-class engineering scientific journal cluster.
