Abstract:
[Purposes] The characteristics and influencing factors of zero-cited papers are analyzed, and the strategies for academic journal editors to deal with zero-cited papers are proposed. [Methods] We obtained the data of zero-cited papers of Journal of Chongqing University from 2009 to 2013 via CNKI, and studied the zero-cited papers from five aspects: publication time, subject, first-author type, manuscript source, and manuscript length. [Findings] The zero-cited rate is declining with the increase of the time of publication. The zero-cited rate of internal manuscripts increases year by year. The industrial papers have a high possibility to be zero-cited papers. The zero-cited papers are significantly shorter than high-cited papers. And the length of papers is positively correlated with citation rate. [Conclusions] To reduce the proportion of zero-cited papers, it is recommended to strictly control the quality of the manuscripts, optimize the column settings, fair treatment of all manuscripts, pay attention to the length of manuscripts, and improve the convenience of retrieval to reduce the proportion of zero-cited papers. At the same time, we should strengthen the dissemination of journals and improve the visibility of the literature to so as to improve the academic quality and academic influence of journals.
