Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper analyzes the relationship between paper downloads and cited frequency and discusses whether it is applicable to the impact evaluation of academic journals. [Methods] According to the relationship between cited frequency and paper downloads, we constructed a partition map which reflected the hotspot influence, newborn influence, potential influence, and classical influence of journals. Furthermore, we analyzed the different influence of 36 management journals based on the academic papers published in 2017-2018, and carried out correlation analysis and regression analysis of the different influence and conventional bibliometric indexes. [Findings] It is a brand-new perspective to assess journals based on hotspot influence, newborn influence, potential influence, and classical influence. Papers of different journals performed differently in different influence partitions and most papers of management journals showed high hotspot influence and newborn influence. The h-index and impact factor mainly reflected hotspot influence of journals. [Conclusions] The hotspot influence factor, newborn influence factor, potential influence factor, and classical influence factor are suited to the evaluation of academic journals.
