Abstract:

[Purposes] To investigate the status quo of conflict of interest disclosure policies in Japanese medical journals and to provide a reference for medical journals in China. [Methods] The conflict of interest guidelines, regulations and systems, as well as expressions related to conflict of interest disclosure in documents such as the call for manuscripts, manuscript requirements, submission instructions, important reminders, and the review process published on the official websites of 131 journals of Japanese Association of Medical Sciences(JAMS)were used as the material for analysis, then conducted narrative statistics on items such as the classification of conflict of interest, the disclosure process, disclosure requirements, and the handling methods of the journals. [Findings] All 131 journals of JAMS have conflict of interest disclosure policies on their official websites that can cover all subjects of the entire publication process. The conflict of interest disclosure policies of Japanese medical journals have been brought into line with the international mainstream, and also show respect for medical research and practice in Japan in terms of disclosure scale, conflict avoidance, and information protection. [Conclusions] Medical journals in China should enhance the awareness of conflict of interest disclosure, improve conflict of interest disclosure policies and pay attention to the combination of applicability and principle.
