[Purposes] This study aims to analyze the current problems of medical ethics and publication ethics in notice to contributors of medical journals in China by surveying the present situation, and to propose the corresponding suggestions.[Methods] Forty high quality Chinese medical journals covering general medicine and clinical medicine were selected as samples to study the items of medical ethics and publication ethics in notice to contributors. [Findings] The notices to contributors of Chinese medical journals are outdated and simple as instructions for authors' writing and submission, and they are not adjusted according to the needs of medical ethics and publication ethics development. [Conclusions] Notice to contributors is the important legal determination of rights and obligations between authors and journals. It also provides a reference for editors to determine the manuscript acceptance or rejection. So medical journals should pay attention to the guiding role of notice to contributors on the authors' ethical attitude and behavior, in order to prevent academic misconduct and strengthen the construction of medical ethics and publication ethics.
