Abstract:

[Purposes]This paper tries to find out the influencing factors of academic misconduct of college teachers in the publication of academic papers, which is expected to serve as a reference for academic journals to avoid the misconduct. [Methods] Through in-depth interviews of college teachers, editors, and reviewers on the influencing factors of academic misconduct and coding of the text versions of interview dialogues, a mechanism model for the influencing factors of academic misconduct was constructed. [Findings] Academic literacy, regulations and policies, gatekeeper service, and academic atmosphere are four main categories which influence the academic misconduct of college teachers in publishing academic papers. [Conclusions] The prevention and control of academic misconduct requires the joint efforts of the academic community, for which improving academic literacy of college teachers is the premise. In addition, colleges should develop a new academic evaluation system and establish a sound mechanism for academic supervision and punishment, while editors and reviewers should be serious about the review of papers. Moreover, the society, colleges, and academic journals should create a positive and sound academic atmosphere together.
