Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to investigate the implementation of the Rules for Abstracts and Abstracting (GB 6447—1986) in Chinese medical scientific journals and explore the feasibility of publishing scientific journals with artificial intelligence. [Methods] A total of 600 Chinese medical scientific journals indexed by The Key Magazine of China Technology were collected with 2-3 papers of each journal as the research objects. The papers were entered and analyzed by big data platform and intelligent system in accordance with the Rules for Abstracts and Abstracting and the Regulations on Quality Management of Newspaper and Journals launched in 2020. [Findings] The Rules for Abstracts and Abstracting were executed well by the 600 Chinese medical scientific journals, among which 99.3% adopted the structure of informative abstracts with the ability to extract the main content of the paper. However, the degree of detail and conciseness varied greatly, and most abstracts were 400-500 words. There were 41 formats of the published abstracts, and 21 formats were used by no more than 5 journals. In addition, there were problems including the first-person statement, drug brand name without drug name, incorrect nouns and abbreviations, and non-standard legal unit of measurement. [Conclusions] The investigated Chinese medical scientific journals conform to the Rules for Abstracts and Abstracting, but there are still problems which affect the development of academic subjects and artificial intelligence. The implementation and update of the Rules for Abstracts and Abstracting should arouse the attention of academic circles.
