Abstract:

[Purposes] This study aims to analyze the differences of correspondence/letters among Chinese Medical Journal (CMJ) and New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), The Lancet, and Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), and provide references for optimizing the construction of correspondence/letters. [Methods] All correspondence/letters published in the CMJ, NEJM, JAMA and The Lancet from 2015 to 2016 were searched and analyzed based on Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports. The characteristics of the top 10 articles of correspondence/letters ranked by the citation frequency in 2017 were explored. [Findings] Compared with the correspondence/letters in NEJM, JAMA, and The Lancet, the quantity, proportion, and citation frequencies of those in CMJ are very low. The correspondence/letters in CMJ could not track the hot spots of academic researches timely, resulting in a low degree of attention. [Conclusions] The domestic medical journals such as CMJ have paid less attention to correspondence/letters, and published low-impact articles. Domestic journals should pay attention to the construction of correspondence/letters, timely grasp the research frontiers and hot spots, and publish high-impact articles.
