Abstract:

[Purposes] The purpose of this paper is to raise journal managers' attention to implicit jobs of executive editors, and to improve the quality of scientific journals. [Methods] Using the literature review and logical reasoning, we discussed the influence of implicit jobs of executive editors on the quality of scientific journals based on the communication with peers, and proposed the corresponding motivation strategies. [Findings] The jobs of executive editors coexist with the explicitness and the implicitness. The abundant implicit jobs have significant influence on the journal quality, but are difficult to be monitored and evaluated. So journal managers should pay attention to them, analyze the motivation of implicit jobs of executive editors, and take incentive measures. [Conclusions] The chief editors should play a guiding role fully, propose new management systems on the basis of the relationship between explicit jobs and implicit jobs of executive editors, guide editors to change the irrational career philosophy, and construct the community of common destiny with journals to prompt them to actively carry out the implicit work and ultimately improve the journal quality.
