Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to study the contributions of SCI journals sponsored by Chinese universities to the development of their ESI disciplines. [Methods] The databases of ESI and InCites were used to study the contributions of 42 SCI journals sponsored by Chinese universities to the ESI disciplines from 2007 to 2017. [Findings] These journals make great contributions to the construction of ESI disciplines from two aspects of the number of publications and the frequency of citations. However, the international impact of these journals still lag behind the academic influence of their corresponding ESI disciplines. [Conclusions] The impact of SCI journals sponsored by Chinese universities remains large space to the development of ESI disciplines of universities. We may transfer the comprehensive and multiple discipline journals to discipline-specific journals to promote the international development of both the journals and disciplines. Moreover, the universities are encouraged to create new journals pertaining to their ESI disciplines, and ultimately to promote a mutual development for journals and disciplines.
