Abstract:

[Purposes]This paper analyzes the characteristic factors of highly cited papers and the contribution degree of highly cited papers to the impact factor.[Methods] This article took highly cited papers in the fields of journalism and communication studies from CSSCIas data source, and analyzed their extrinsic and content factors. In this research, response time of highly cited papers, the novelty of research topics, research contentand other four characteristic factorswere defined.[Findings] The influence of 60%above highly cited papers’authors is high,70%above the research content is notnew, the average contribution of cited frequency of top 5%highly cited papers to the impact factor is 27.12%,and response time of highly cited papers is less than one year.[Conclusions]Through the study,it is found that the correlation between the quantity of references and citations is not obvious, highly cited papers tend to cite highly cited papers, and highly cited papersmake a great contribution to the impact factor of journals.
