Abstract:

[Purposes] This study aims to present the overall development and explore the interdisciplinary characteristics of the interdisciplinary journals of natural science and social science, and find inspiration strategies for developing journals especially English journals in China based on the SCI and SCI double-indexed (double S) journals. [Methods] Bibliometrics and case analysis were performed based on 2017 JCR and WoS databases. [Findings] There are totally 641 "double S" journals in the world (5 in China), involving 77 SCI disciplines, 50 SSCI disciplines, and 17 ESI disciplines, including 7 "double S" disciplines; "double S" journals have an ideal division of disciplines, i.e., the number of high-level journals is more than that of low-level journals; compared with low-level journals, high-level "double S" journals are with richer and more diversified article types, significantly better impact factor, total citation, article influence score, and citable items. [Conclusions] There is potential and opportunity for acquisitions and new launches in the fields of general social sciences (information and library sciences), computer science, engineering, economics and business, environment/ecology, and psychiatry/psychology in China.
