Abstract:

[Purposes] This study aims to explore the limitations of journal impact factor percentile (JIFP) in interdisciplinary evaluation of academic journals. [Methods] We obtained relevant data through the JCR database and revealed the limitations of JIFP according to the JIFP calculation formula. [Finding] The value of JIFP is excessively dependent on the scale of subjects; it over-emphasizes the order of impact factors and covers up the difference in the impact factor values; JIFP of the same journal in different disciplines is significantly different. [Conclusions] The application of JIFP in interdisciplinary evaluation of academic journals has obvious limitations, and JIFP should be used carefully for interdisciplinary evaluation of academic journals.
