A survey of article promotion by researchers in the field of physics and suggestions

Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper analyzes the article promotion by researchers in the field of physics and the problems, which is expected to help domestic journals of physics to enhance article promotion by researchers and further improve the visibility of articles. [Methods] Through network research, we investigated the services provided by 13 publishers to boost article promotion by researchers and the ways for researchers to disseminate research outcomes. Moreover, we designed a questionnaire to survey the promotion by physical researchers, the attitudes of them toward the promotion, and the requirements of them for the promotion. [Findings] Researchers in the field of physics are proactive about the promotion and they tend to propagate articles on platforms with high international visibility. Some attributed the failure of concrete actions to the limited time and no knowledge of promotion tools and the benefits. They claimed that they need help in the production of videos and infographics. [Conclusions] Journals of physics should step up efforts to strengthen the article promotion by researchers. They can assist researchers in disseminating research outcomes on platforms with high domestic/international visibility from the four aspects: writing author resource files for article promotion, upgrading journal platforms, bolstering relevant publicity, and offering academic services.

摘要:

【目的】 分析物理领域科研人员推广文章的现状及遇到的问题,从国内物理类期刊促进科研人员自主推广文章的角度,为提高期刊文章可见度提供可行方案。【方法】 通过网络调研,了解13家出版机构协助科研人员推广文章的情况和科研人员推广文章的方式。通过问卷调查,了解物理领域科研人员推广文章的基本情况、对国内期刊文章的推广意愿、对文章推广服务的需求。【结果】 物理领域科研人员自主进行国内期刊文章推广的态度是比较积极的,经常使用的推广方式具有较高的国际显示度,未进行实际推广的主要原因是时间有限以及不了解分享的方式和益处等。同时,物理领域科研人员对视频和信息图制作等服务存较大需求。【结论】 物理类期刊需加强科研人员推广文章的积极性,并从撰写文章推广的作者资源文件、升级期刊平台、加强作者推广文章的宣讲、提供相关服务4个方面协助科研人员在具有较高国内/国际显示度的平台上进行文章推广,进而提升期刊文章在国内外的可见度。
