Abstract:

[Purposes] This study aims to discuss the effect of different types of papers on the impact factor of academic journals, providing a reference to scientifically evaluate the quality and influence of academic journals. [Methods] Based on the investigation of related data in the Web of Science, both contribution degrees of reviews and articles were calculated and analyzed for three typical international top journals, i.e., Physical Review Letters, Chemical Reviews, and Energy & Environmental Science. [Findings] The total and average contribution degrees may evaluate the effect of different types of papers on the impact factor in terms of overall and average, respectively. [Conclusions] The combination of these methods of contribution evaluation can describe the effect of different types of papers on the impact factor of journal effectively, which is beneficial to establish a more unbiased and reasonable estimation system for journals.
