[Purposes] This paper discusses the characteristics of discourse influence indicators of academic journals and the relationship among them, which is expected to clarify the current discourse influence of English academic journals in China and the gap with international journals. [Methods] On the basis of multi-source heterogeneous data, we adopted the methods of literature research, comparative analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, and multiple stepwise regression analysis to study the characteristics and relationships of discourse influence indicators of English academic journals in China from the macro, meso, and micro perspectives. [Findings] At the macro level, English academic journals in China are characterized by small number, small scale, and low competitiveness, failing to keep pace with the growing research strength in China. From the meso perspective, the discipline distribution of these journals is uneven and the 12 indicators of them show different characteristics and distribution regularities. According to the analysis results of the 12 indicators, the individual discourse influence of the journals is low in China and abroad. At the micro level, the multiple linear regression equation demonstrates that the influence of the indicators on or the contribution of them to h5 index is in the order: total cites, CiteScore, non-self-cited frequency in China, SJR, international cooperation rate, and proportion of OA papers, and that the SNIP, number of published papers, and number of references are in positive correlation with the h5 index, in spite of no significant impact on the h5 index. [Conclusions] As an essential voice of Chinese academic strength, English journals in China should strive to improve the discourse influence and promote the international dissemination of Chinese academic outcomes.
