[Purposes] This paper aims to explore current situation and influencing factors of the working ability of academic journal editors in Henan Province. [Methods] A total of 277 editors from 80 academic journals in Henan Province were surveyed by the work ability index(WAI) scale. The descriptive analysis, independent sample test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis were used to describe the questionnaire' results. [Findings] The WAI of editorial staff of academic journals in Henan Province is 38.22±5.19, which is at a relatively high level. However, the number of editors with excellent working ability is 49, which is less than 1/5 of the samples. There are statistical differences in the working ability of academic journals between different gender, age, education background, monthly income, average annual outbound training, average time of physical exercise per week, and daily sleep time (P<0.05). Gender (β=2.362, P<0.001), age (β=-1.285, P<0.001), average time of physical exercise per week (β=0.776, P=0.002), and daily sleep time (β=2.627, P<0.001) are the influencing factors of the WAI. [Conclusions] The working ability of editorial staff of academic journals in Henan Province is relatively high, but there is still room for improvement on working ability. The editorial staff with average time of physical exercise more than 3 times per week and daily total sleep time of 8-10 h can keep their working ability at a high level.
