    [Purposes] This paper explores the modes of combining scientific journals with databases in related fields, which is expected to provide multi-resource and multi-level knowledge service for readers and reference for scientific journals to implement and expand the scope and methods of knowledge service. [Methods] Taking three Chinese academic journals, Chinese Journal of Plant Ecology, Chinese Bulletin of Botany, and Biodiversity Science, which are indexed by Integrative Biology Journals, as examples, the database-based knowledge service modes of scientific journals were explored and the significance was analyzed. To be specific, the design ideas for the combination of scientific journals with different types of databases were described and overall framework was plotted. [Findings] The proposed knowledge service modes promoted knowledge dissemination and enhanced the influence of the three Chinese academic journals. [Conclusions] The database-based knowledge service modes of scientific journals are “networking” and “three-dimensional” publishing modes of multi-resource and multi-level, which can provide extensive and accurate professional knowledge services for readers. This pattern is also applicable for scientific journals in other fields, journal group, and full-text databases of journals.

    [Purposes] From the perspective of information exchange, this paper discusses the breakthrough path to the transformation and development of knowledge service of scientific journals in China. [Methods] Using methods of literature research and comparative analysis, this paper explored the framework of scientific information exchange model for the knowledge service of scientific journals, and analyzed the knowledge service model of worldwide scientific journals. [Findings] We summarize the knowledge service offered by scientific journals from the perspectives of formal and informal communication, respectively. By comparing the differences between scientific journals in and outside China in terms of service modes, means, and channels, we propose development strategies for the knowledge service of scientific journals in China. [Conclusions] China's scientific journals should improve their knowledge service system with regard to group business model, automatic publishing process, and service projects development based on WeChat matrix, so as to achieve the innovative transformation from knowledge production to knowledge service.

    [Purposes] This paper aims to investigate the awareness, practice, problems, and development plan of knowledge service in scientific journals, which is expected to serve as a reference for integrated publishing of scientific journals. [Methods] We designed a questionnaire on knowledge service and distributed it to editors of scientific journals in China via Sojump to probe into the awareness, practices, and demands of knowledge service and the intention to carry out knowledge service. [Findings] A total of 264 valid questionnaires were recovered. Most editors of Chinese scientific journals (237, 89.8%) reported a deep understanding of knowledge service and 192 journals (72.7%) have adopted various methods for knowledge dissemination. However, the digitalization and understanding of the intension and extension of knowledge service are different among journals. Related practices are mainly the small-scale non-systematic informationization services. The majority failed to integrate knowledge services in their traditional work flow. However, they expected diversified knowledge service modes despite the lack of professionals, financial support, and mature profit mode. [Conclusions] At present, knowledge service in Chinese scientific journals is in the ascendant and journals should break with tradition and explore knowledge service modes based on their advantages and user need, to promote the development in knowledge service.

    [Purposes] This paper explores the evolution of the knowledge service of academic journals from the perspective of scene research, which is expected to provide methods and theoretical basis for the transformation of knowledge service mode among academic journals. [Methods] With the method of literature research, this paper expounded the development of academic journal knowledge service from the aspect of scene research and analyzed the transformation and upgrading and risks of it in the context of intelligent communication. [Findings] Scene research allows more comprehensive study of academic journal knowledge service. A summary of the essence of and approaches to scene construction helps gain a clear insight into the evolution of academic journal knowledge service and also provides for ideas for the further development of it against the backdrop of intelligent communication. [Conclusions] The combination of scene and academic journal knowledge service will be of great importance for practical problem-solving and daily decision-making of users and an essential topic in academic publishing.

    [Purposes] This paper summarizes the business philosophy of international STM (Science, Technology, and Medicine) publishing groups, which is expected to serve as a reference for the development of Chinese academic journals. [Methods] We analyzed the development progress of the four major international STM publishing groups (Wiley, Elsevier, Springer Nature, and Taylor & Francis) with the methods of literature retrieval and case study. [Findings] The four major international STM publishing groups uphold the common business philosophy of responding to the call of the times and meeting the needs of industry development, thereby successfully transforming to digital publishing and knowledge service. It has become a consensus that knowledge service is the future development direction of the publishing industry. Thus, it is of great practical significance for the transformation of traditional publishing industry to knowledge services under the current situation to learn from the business philosophy of international STM publishing groups. [Conclusions] Drawing on the business philosophy of international STM publishing groups, the management departments of publishing industry in China should actively guide publishers to break the tradition, establish interdisciplinary talent teams, improve core data competitiveness basing on user requirements, and build diversified technology platforms, thereby blazing a trail for the transformation to knowledge services with Chinese characteristics.

    [Purposes] This paper investigates the knowledge service of medical academic journals in Jiangsu Province, which is expected to provide methods for other medical journals to carry out knowledge service. [Methods] Through literature research, we summarized the methods and specific forms of knowledge service of medical academic journals. Then we surveyed the official websites and WeChat official accounts of 50 medical academic journals in Jiangsu Province to gain an insight into the knowledge service of them. [Findings] Medical academic journals can carry out knowledge service from six aspects at three levels: basic service, knowledge retrieval, knowledge discovery, tools and applications, mobile and social service, and multimedia service. Knowledge service of journals is related to their impact. The majority of medical academic journals in Jiangsu Province have carried out various forms of knowledge services, but the service level and form can be further improved. [Conclusions] Medical academic journals in Jiangsu Province should improve the form of knowledge service, raise knowledge service level, cultivate interdisciplinary editors, use advanced publishing technology, expand users, enhance user loyalty, carry out publishing integration by using journal clusters, and try charged service, so as to facilitate journal development.

    [Purposes] In the context of media convergence, this paper explores the knowledge service measures and capacity improvement paths of scientific journals in the hope that scientific communication can better connect the scientific research process and lead and promote scientific research innovation. [Methods] This paper analyzed the objectives and strategies of knowledge service in knowledge innovation and production process and discussed the methods and paths for mutual promotion between knowledge service and knowledge dissemination. [Findings] Scientific journals provide knowledge service with the core of guiding scientific research objectives and promoting innovation synergy, thereby helping conquer the difficulties in scientific research and improving the production efficiency of knowledge. Enhancing the knowledge service capacity in the process of knowledge dissemination improves knowledge dissemination from attracting attention to causing purposive changes. Hoisting the knowledge-presenting ability of media and meeting audiences' needs of communication and participation in the social platform enable knowledge service to quickly integrate into users' problem-solving process. [Conclusions] Strengthening the knowledge service capacity of scientific journals can accelerate the transformation of tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge, promote the dissemination and application of knowledge, change the role of scientific journals in only providing content, and improve the transmission efficiency of scientific journals.

    [Purposes] This paper aims to explore the way to construct the nursing field knowledge service payment platform based on the nurses' demand for knowledge service and willingness to pay. [Methods] By purposive sampling, 596 nursing staff were selected for questionnaire survey in July, 2018. The investigation tool was the self-designed "Nursing staff knowledge service demand and payment willingness questionnaire", and the contents of investigation included 4 aspects: general information, acquaintance of knowledge service and application status, professional knowledge service demand in daily work and study, and willingness to pay for nursing knowledge service products. [Findings] Nursing staff who are female, bachelor degree holders, working life over 10 years, working in Class III hospitals, and frontline clinical departments are the main research objects. Nursing staff often use WeChat to pay for knowledge services, and hold the opinion that the major problem of the current medical knowledge service platforms is the fragmented and non-systematic contents; they hope to acquire clinical knowledge, scientific research writings, knowledge or experience on improving working efficiency or income, and professional advice on professional career planning or academic development; their preferences of service type are mainly column subscription and charged seminars or training, the main modes are videos or graphs, the course length is between 11 to 30 minutes, and the charged amount is below 30 yuan each time. [Conclusions] The nursing staff's demand for knowledge service has its own professional specialty. Nursing scientific journals have certain advantages in platform construction of knowledge service, and user needs and actual clinical situation should be taken into consideration during the setting up of contents.

    [Purposes] In order to improve the efficiency of internal production management process and the ability of external information service of academic publishing system in the era of big data, this paper discusses the reconstruction of academic publishing process and the improvement of knowledge service capability by future artificial intelligence technology. [Methods] The comprehensive investigation method and literature analysis method were used to investigate the advancement of the academic publishing process and the improvement of knowledge service capability. [Finding] Artificial intelligence technology can accelerate the scholarly communication, promote each link between the data transfer and support in the publishing process, so as to reconstruct the intelligent academic publishing process, and realize the publishing process forward facilitation, editing process automation, production printing process on demand, and precise marketing distribution process. Artificial intelligence technology also can greatly promote the knowledge service of academic publishing ability, and realize the intelligent behavior of knowledge services, intelligent thinking, scene visualization, path diversification, and communication ecologicalization. [Conclusions] The deep integration of publishing process and knowledge service with artificial intelligence is the future development direction of academic publishing, which is also the only way for the transformation and upgrading of value function of academic publishing system from low-level communication to high-level service.

    [Purposes] This paper aims to explore the breakthrough path for the transformation and development of knowledge service in academic journals due to the fact that their knowledge service is hindered by technology and content. [Methods] Combining the framework of the innovation theory and typical cases, we analyzed the innovation mode of resource allocation and organization, which is especially weak in the current knowledge service practice and theoretical research. [Finding] Open science greatly expands knowledge resources, and knowledge payment promotes the rapid iteration of knowledge resource production methods, which provide extremely favorable conditions for resource allocation and organization innovation. [Conclusions] In the process of knowledge service of academic journals, we should reform the organizational structure and management mode of knowledge services with open service thinking, and actively use open knowledge, tools, and platforms to build bridges to drive users to deeply embed knowledge services into their own activities, making them become the powerful tool to support user innovation.

    [Purposes] This study aims to explore the innovation theory, innovation carrier, innovation method, and innovation mode of knowledge service for scientific journals in media convergence environment to provide a new concept for the knowledge service of scientific journals. [Methods] In view of some fuzzy cognition and specific obstacles existing in knowledge service of scientific journals, we combined some domestic and overseas practical examples to analyze the problems existed in the practice of knowledge service of scientific journals. [Findings] From the theoretical innovation perspective, we put forward the concept and characteristics of knowledge service which are different from the library and information science, and provide references for the future research. From the carrier innovation perspective, the transformation from single media to multimedia application can broaden the channels of knowledge service. From the method innovation perspective, it is suggested to carry out intensive collaborative knowledge services, reshape the work system, and change the traditional editing process. From the mode innovation perspective, the knowledge service can be realized from double-blind mode to sunshine service mode in big data and cloud computing environments. [Conclusions] The knowledge service innovation of scientific journals should be further innovated in the aspects of theory, carrier, method and mode. Scientific journals should apply the latest technology carrier in modern society, broaden the service channel, improve the service mode, and enhance the level of knowledge service, so as to extend the functions and application prospects of scientific journals.

    [Purposes] We investigate the knowledge service modes of academic journals based on mobile application to mutually support the experiences in knowledge service and practical operation, and propose the development strategies for academic journals. [Methods] The Qingbo indexes of one-year data were adopted to analyze the service status of WeChat official accounts in comprehensive academic journals, professional academic journals, academic journal database, and academic WeChat in the absence of academic background. The activities online and offline as well as the functions of academic journals were also analyzed. [Findings] The academic journals should gradually possess the service modes of customer-made type, industrial application type, and intellectual system type based on the growth points of single-point development in knowledge resources. [Conclusions] The academic journals should serve insiders and outsiders in different ways. Moreover, we should propose schemes of knowledge service before organizing, pay attention to the development of incremental resources, and provide the knowledge service which can both meet the requirements of customers and application circumstances.

    [Purposes] This study aims to explore the knowledge service mode which is able to accurately meet the needs of authors and readers, has remarkable economic benefits and is sustainable, and to boost the supply-side reform of academic journals. [Methods] On the basis of fully researching the domestic and foreign academic publishing knowledge service modes, we combined the practice of journal operation with new media, big data and other technologies to build six precision knowledge service modes, i.e., knowledge network intellectual property, online video courses, online knowledge Q&A, information subscription and directional push, hot topic circles, live online seminars. The concrete implementation path was presented. [Findings] The six modes can solve the current knowledge service problems of academic journals, such as the unitary service mode, users' disadvantaged positions and inconspicuous economic benefits. The high-efficient sharing and realization of user knowledge, as well as the return of editors' function and the re-excavation of periodical value will be achieved. [Conclusions] Academic journals should reform development concepts, make full use of new media technology, achieve an all-win situation for journals, editors, authors and readers through precision knowledge service.

    [Purposes] Taking PLoSOAJplatform as an example, this paper aims at exploring the path and function of know ledge services in open access academic journals.It is significant for domestic open access platform builders and libraries to utilize OAJs.[Methods] By literature retrieval and internet investigation,this paper explored know ledge service clients and service models available in the PLoS OAJ platform, and demonstrated the autonomous, interactive services.[Findings] PLoS OAJ platform provides plenty of know ledge services, including autonomous search, personalized services and socialmedia interactive services,satisfying the hierarchy of information needs and users’interaction.[Conclusions] The know ledge service of PLoSOAJplatform,if added image retrieval, PLoSAPP and strengthening the combination w ith the referencemanagement software, w ill heighten the effects of know ledge services.

    [Purpose] In order to apply the traditional media and new media w ith mutual integration,mutual promotion and common development,put forward to build the concept of omni-media know ledge service system.[Methodology] The discussion was launched from the digital technology application in the publishing field,the necessity of constructing omni-media know ledge service system of STM journals.[Findings] Digital publishing platform is the core to constructs the structuremodel of the service system,was analyzed the practical experience of Chinese Laser Press which have established the omni-media know ledge service system,summarize its innovations in the development.[Conclusions] Throuth constructing a omni-media know ledge service system transition to develop digital transformation is reliable and practical ideas,the experience of Chinese laser Press can supply some references for other STM journals.
