Abstract:

[Purposes] This study aims to investigate the influence of cultural distance on the internationalization manuscript sources of top English scientific journals in China. [Methods] With the help of Web of Science (WoS) database, we collected the TOP50 countries or areas of overall publications from the most internationally influential English scientific journals in Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) which were publicated from 2012 to 2016. Taking 47 countries or areas as samples, we calculated the cultural distance between China and them. In addition, we constructed a regression model on the basis of the cultural distance as the central explanatory variable, WoS publications and language factors as the controlled variables, and the quantity of published papers on the sample publications of these 47 sample countries as the explained variable. After that, a regression analysis was used by SPSS 24.0 statistical software. [Findings] The cultural distance is in a low negative correlation with the internationalization manuscript sources from the sample publications. The quantity of WoS publications is in a high positive correlation with the internationalization manuscript sources and the language factors are in a low positive correlation with the internationalization manuscript sources. [Conclusions] The top English scientific journals in China should strengthen the efforts to popularize and invite contributions with the countries which have a similar culture, a larger quantity of WoS publications, and English as their official language or common tongue.

【目的】 研究文化距离对我国顶尖英文科技期刊稿源国际化的影响。【方法】 利用Web of Science(WoS)数据库统计中科院最具国际影响力英文科技期刊2012—2016年发文统计排名前50的国家(地区),以其中47个国家(地区)为样本国,计算样本国与我国的文化距离值。以文化距离值为重点解释变量,WoS发文量和语言因素为控制变量,47个样本国在26种样本刊的发文量为被解释变量,构建回归模型,利用SPSS 24.0统计软件进行回归分析。【结果】 文化距离与26种样本刊的稿源国际化低度负相关;WoS发文量与稿源国际化高度正相关;语言因素与稿源国际化低度正相关。【结论】 我国顶尖英文科技期刊应在与我国文化距离相对较近、WoS发文量大、官方语言或通用语言是英语的国家中加大推广力度和约稿力度。
