Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper constructs a three-dimensional academic journal evaluation index based on content innovation, social communication, and academic influence, and conducts empirical research to provide new ideas for academic journal evaluation. [Methods] We selected journals in which article-type papers accounted for ≥80% of the subject journals of library and information science in the Web of Science in 2018 as the research objects. First, we calculated the three sub-indexes and comprehensive scores of each journal. Secondly, we analyzed the three sub-indexes and conducted correlation analysis, reliability analysis, validity analysis, ranking analysis, and robustness analysis. [Findings] The multi-dimensional academic journal evaluation index is reasonable, valid, and reliable. Most journals have low numerical values in the three dimensions, and only a few journals have high numerical values in one or two dimensions. In terms of social communication power and academic influence, journals from Q1 and Q2 are basically dominant. In terms of content innovation, a variety of JCR journals coexist. [Conclusions] Starting from a multi-dimensional perspective, it brings new research ideas to journal evaluation, which is a supplement to the existing evaluation mechanism.
