[Purposes] This paper aims to figure out the macro-environment of academic journals of humanities and social sciences at present, and provide relevant references and policy suggestions for promoting the internationalization of academic journals of humanities and social sciences in China. [Methods] We used analysis tool of external environment—PEST analysis to summarize and list some factors which affect the internationalization of academic journals of humanities and social sciences in China from four aspects of politics, economy, society, and technology. [Findings] Considering various external environment factors, we find that fully relying on national policies of the Belt and Road initiative, investing more money, founding English journals and sticking to academic self-confidence, and leveraging digital publishing model are effective ways to promote the internationalization of academic journals of humanities and social sciences in China. [Conclusions] It is helpful to accelerate the internationalization process that we understand the macro-environment of the internationalization of humanities and social sciences journals in China comprehensively and implement the internationalization strategy of humanities and social sciences journals with emphasis.
