类比语料分析对标题与摘要写译的启示——以Nature与Science原创科研论文为例

摘要:

【目的】 促进科技期刊对科研论文标题与摘要英译的正确导向,提高英文摘要的写译质量。【方法】 以65篇Nature和Science原创科研论文为例,从标题句式、摘要人称与时态、悬垂分词的使用三方面进行分析,将国际顶级期刊论文标题和摘要的特点与国内现有行业要求、论文撰写书刊中的相关描述进行对比。【结果】 发现Nature和Science论文标题除名词短语外,完整句比例较高;近全部摘要使用第一人称we;动词时态使用多样,可分为单一时态与混合时态两大类;无悬垂分词使用现象。【结论】 类比语料的分析结果,可为国内科技期刊的英文摘要写译提供借鉴,为国内科技论文写作教学提供一定参考。

Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to promote a better role of domestic scientific journals in guiding the title and abstract translation of academ ic articles and to help improve the quality of the w riting and translation of the titles and abstracts of academic articles.[Methods] this paper makes a case study on the titles and abstracts of 65 original research articles selected from the world’s top journals Nature and Science w ith regard to their syntactic patterns of the titles,choices of person and tenses of abstracts aswell as the use of dangling participles in comparison w ith the existent descriptions and prescriptions on the aforesaid aspects. [Findings] The results show that a fairly high percent of sentence titles is employed byNature and Science in addition to noun phrases;nearly all the abstracts use the first person plural pronoun we;verb tenses used in the abstracts can be roughly divided into two major types,abstracts w ith a single tense and those w ith m ixed tenses;and that no dangling particles are found in them. [Conclusions]The analysis of the comparable corpus may well provide references for the teaching of English scientific paper w riting and for the domestic English title and abstract translation.
