Abstract:

[Purposes] This study aims to discuss the strategies of traditional scientific journals on soliciting contributions under the impact of new media. [Methods] An invited essay published in Hereditas (Beijing) and an online essay in WeChat official account BioArt, which reported the same topic, were selected to analyze the content differences between the traditional scientific journals and new media. [Findings] Although BioArt has a faster reporting speed than Hereditas (Beijing), the article published in Hereditas (Beijing) provides more comprehensive information and shows better quality of academic content and writing. The process of peer review also ensures the article more reference value for readers. [Conclusions] In terms of soliciting contributions, traditional scientific journals can bypass the competition of reporting speed from new media by strengthening the depth and width of the academic content. This strategy adjustment will make traditional scientific journals more characteristic and attractive to readers.
