Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to solve the problem of duplicate submission and enhance paper security in journals by decentralization with blockchain. [Methods] To optimize the submission process, this paper proposed a blockchain-based scheme to detect the duplicate submission and protect the paper authentication. The blockchain system of the scheme was a consortium blockchain-based auxiliary system of the existing collecting and editing system operating in coordination with the latter, with 6 basic functions: journal registration, author registration, paper submission, paper status modification, duplicate submission judgment, and paper query. [Findings] The prototype system was developed and the functionalities and performance were tested, which verified the system was effective. [Conclusions] Compared with the widely-used centralized collecting and editing system, this scheme helps journals prevent academic misconduct of duplicate submission without sharing paper data with the system operator and enables tampering-resistant submission record, thus protecting the copyright of authors.
