Abstract:

[Purposes] This study aims to discuss the feasibility of applying the eigenfactor percentile to journal evaluation within and across disciplines. [Methods] Taking the journals from four disciplines of natural science indexed by JCR as examples, this study examined the correlation between the eigenfactor percentile and SNIP, SJR, and average JIF percentile in different disciplines by Spearman rank correlation test. [Findings] There is a positive correlation between the eigenfactor percentile and SNIP (all P<0.05) in the journals of four natural science disciplines, and a significant positive correlation between the eigenfactor percentile and SJR and average JIF percentile (all P<0.001). There is also a significant positive correlation between the eigenfactor percentile and SNIP, SJR, and average JIF percentile among four disciplines, with the correlation coefficients of 0.717, 0.815, and 0.830 (all P<0.001). [Conclusions] The eigenfactor percentile has a certain effectiveness in journal evaluation, which can be used as a new index of journal evaluation system.
