Abstract:

[Purposes] We investigate the data publishing policies of international medical journals to offer an enlightenment to data policy-making for Chinese medical journals and to provide reference for researchers to publishing their papers and sharing data. [Methods] We selected 50 medical core journals indexed in Q1 of SCI journal partitions of Chinese Academy of Sciences as samples, and made a detailed survey on their author instructions and analyzed their data publishing policies from policy strength of data publishing obligation, data type, data storage and data citation. [Findings] Most of the journals (94%) have published data publication policies, but the policy strengths are weak. Only part of them define data sharing as a condition of paper publication. Different types of data storage location is not the same, and the data availability statements are not unified, which increase the difficulty of data obtaining. [Conclusions] The data publishing policies of the international top medical journals have different schedule, and they still need to be improved.
