Abstract:

[Purposes] This paper aims to analyze the distribution and correlation between usage count and citation frequency of li-teratures of information science and library science which are searched in Web of Science (WoS) database, in order to reveal the regularity and the relation between them.[Methods] We searched the citation frequency and the usage count of TOP 5% literatures of information science and library science which were published from 2013 to 2015 in WoS. We analyzed literature types, citation frequency and usage count in different years and their correlation.[Findings] It shows that the article is the main literature type in the citation frequency TOP 5%, usage count TOP 5% and overlapping literatures. Usage count (180 days) and citation frequency have significant differences among 2013—2015 (both P<0.05). The usage count increases every year, and annual performance of the citation frequency is in the contrary. There are weak associations between usage count and usage count (180 days) with the citation frequency. In addition to 2015, there are correlations in 2013 and 2014.[Conclusions] It reveals that the longer the citation time window of citation is, the higher the citation frequency is. Scholars tend to use more new literatures in 180 days. In addition, it also reveals that there is the correlation between citation frequency and usage count, and the correlation is related to the time window of citation.
